The Illinois Department of Revenue has recently checked the tax records of some licensed Illinois dog breeders and there are indications that future record examinations for tax purposes will be made regarding other Illinois breeders.
The IFDCO board encourages anyone with pet-related revenue in Illinois should at this time check with their professional tax advisor regarding their own individual tax situation. The IFDCO board also encourages these individuals to check with their attorney concerning what actions they should take if anyone appears on their doorstep asking for any form of sales records.
We repeat: the IFDCO board encourages anyone with pet-related revenue to call their CPA, attorney, or other tax professional and make certain they are in compliance and their records are in order.
